The RCMP stated 15-20 Vehicles crashed one after another in North Calgary. According to reports and preliminary information, a commercial vehicle including a trailer, along with five sedan cars, four pickup trucks, three SUVs and a passenger van were involved in the incident
The incident occurred at the section of Highway 2- the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and Highway 72 north of Airdrie about two kilometers north of Veterans Boulevard just after 10 PM. An investigation is still on to understand the cause of the collision. According to the police, the primary factors for the incident are weather and road conditions.
Mike Crompton told CBC in a telephonic interview that he was with his friends playing board games and somehow, they asked him to stay for an hour extra. Crompton feels he is pretty lucky that he stayed or else he would have faced the same consequence.
Crompton added, there was a semi-truck with a digger on it which was on fire. RCMP warned motorists to expect hours-long delays near that section of highway. The RCMP police informed the press that the area will be under CCTV surveillance and not only motorists, but drivers also need to be on high alert while they drive through this sub-section of the north of Calgary.
